ACT Evacuates Bandung Flashfloods Victims

 ACTNews, BANDUNG REGENCY – The heavy rain that fell on Bandung Regency on Saturday (2/9) caused the overflowing of the river near Pasirjati Hamlet, Cilangkrang Sub-District. At 10 p.m., flashfloods hit Jati Indah Regency Housing Complex in RT 004/016 neighborhood in Pasirjati Hamlet.

Volunteers from Masyarakat Relawan Indonesia (MRI) – Aksi Cepat Tanggap (ACT) reported that the flood damaged 12 houses and caused several casualties. Search and Rescue operations were conducted to evacuate the victims.

“Our volunteers, along with teems from Regional Disaster Mitigation Board (BPBD), BASARNAS, and the Fire Department helped to evacuate the victims. Based on our data, three were confirmed dead, one sustained heavy wounds, and two suffered from minor wounds,” stated Atep Salman, Coordinator of MRI West Java.

The names of the casualties are Firdasari (35), Nuraini (25) and Rauvan (17 months). The names of the injured are Kiki (12), who suffered heavy wounds, Nisa (14) and Ajay (45) who suffered from minor wounds.

After the flood receded, most of Jati Endah Regency housing complex was covered in thick mud. Salman explained that volunteers are still working to clear up the mud that covered the roads and the locals’ houses.

“We have been helping the locals to clear up the mud and to move their vehicles to safer places. Insha Allah, we will distribute aid packages for them too,” concluded Salman. []
